Serological  Differentiation of the two different Genotypes (Biotypes)

of P. zopfii and P. blaschkeae

Figure 1. Serological comparison of P. zopfii biotypes. Western blots of specific serums against P. zopfii genotype 1(A) and 2 (B), and P. blaschkeae (C) are shown. Rabbit hyper immune serums raised against RZI-3 (A; P. zopfii genotype 1 ), SAG 263-4 (B; P. zopfii genotype 2), and RZIII-3 (C; P. blaschkeae) were used as primary antibodies. Specific antigens of P. zopfii genotype 2 (lane 1, SAG 263-4; lane 2, SAG 2021; lane 5, RZ II-1; lane 6, RZII-3); #, at 51 kDa, and of P. blaschkeae (lane 7, RZIII-1; lane 8, RZIII-3); *, at 37 kDa were indicated by arrows. P. zopfii genotype 1 is shown in lane 3 (RZI-1) and 4 (RZI-3). The symbol indicates a common antigen of all biotypes at 30 kDa.
